Jesus Movement International came into existence following the historic "Passing the Torch" crusade in Lagos, Nigeria, on November 17, 2017, led by the renowned evangelist Reinhard Bonnke. During this significant gathering, many believers experienced spiritual impartation and a renewed call to carry forward the mandate of the Great Commission. Through prayer and spiritual commissioning, we embraced the conviction that we had been sent as an extension of Christ's mission to reach the lost in Nigeria and beyond.
After the event, we spent time seeking God in prayer and trusting Him for direction and strength. During this season, the Lord impressed upon us a clear mandate grounded in Scripture, particularly Acts 1:8, Mark 11:1–6, and Luke 4:17–18. These passages shaped our understanding of the call to carry the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit and to proclaim liberty and hope to communities in need.
The ministry began its early activities within what we considered our "Jerusalem," focusing on the Bida and Ilorin axis in Nigeria. Our first major outreach took place from November 30 to December 2, 2017, in the communities of Bussu and Garba in Niger State. A team of no fewer than ten committed believers embarked on this mission with a burden to share the gospel in communities where Christianity had little presence and where the population was predominantly Muslim.
During this outreach, the team encountered significant spiritual opposition and challenges. Nevertheless, through prayer, faith, and bold declaration of God's Word, the team remained steadfast in proclaiming the message of Christ. With a strong conviction that the power of God must prevail over every form of darkness, the ministry continued its work of evangelism and intercession.
By God's grace, the outreach resulted in lives being touched and souls responding to the gospel message. The experience further strengthened the ministry's commitment to its mission: to proclaim the gospel, reach unreached communities, and see lives transformed through the power of Jesus Christ.
Since that time, Jesus Movement International has continued to pursue its calling of evangelism, prayer, and discipleship, seeking to raise believers who will carry the message of salvation to communities, campuses, and nations.
